Getting Around
Use Google Maps for navigation in Banjul and Serekunda. Public transport is limited; shared taxis (sept-place) and minibuses (gele-gele) are the most common ways to get around.
Public Transport
Banjul and Serekunda are connected by minibuses and shared taxis. Green tourist taxis operate around the resort areas. River transport along the Gambia River is a scenic way to reach inland villages.
Payments
Cash is dominant, especially outside hotels and resorts. Credit cards are accepted at larger hotels and a few tourist restaurants. GMD (Gambian dalasi) is the local currency — bring small notes for markets and local transport.
Essential Apps
Use Google Maps for navigation. There are no major ride-hailing apps in The Gambia — arrange tourist taxis through your hotel. WhatsApp is the standard messaging app for local contacts and tour guides.
